Born in 1973 in Rome, Italy. Lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

The great monochrome landscapes or the fleeting figures that seem to come out of the walls painted by Federico Pietrella are the upshot of an original combination of painting and photography: a form of expression that the artist has been experimenting with since the end of the ‘90s. Since then his style has shifted towards more material and expressionistic forms, highlighting on one hand his taste for the mimetic transcription of reality, but above all showing a sensitive capacity to make use of time and the continuity of action in the construction of the image and its expression through painting. His works bear all the key characteristics of his artistic development: the relationship with time, the illusionary dimension, the ever original use of simple tools and materials.
